Installation Tutorial — AUTODATA 3.40 under Windows

⚠️ Important
Perform the steps with an account administrator et temporarily disable your antivirus/SmartScreen if it blocks unknown files (then reactivate it after installation).

 

1) Prerequisites

1. Windows 7/8/10/11 (32 or 64 bits).

2. Administrator rights on the machine.

3. Visual C ++ 2010 Redistributable (x86 et x64 on a 64-bit Windows).

   • If necessary, install the two packages provided in the archive (or those from Microsoft).

4. At least 2 GB of free space on C:\.

2) Decompression

1. Unzip the archive from Autodata (e.g. on the Design).

2. You must obtain a file containing in particular:
   RegSettings.reg, install.cmd, a file Win_x64_Reg (for 64-bit systems), and the final directory C:\ADCDA2 will be created by the installation.

3) Step-by-step installation

1. Install Visual C++ 2010

   • On Windows 64-bit: install x86 and x64.

   • On Windows 32-bit: install x86 only.

2. Apply the registry configuration

   • Double click on RegSettings.reg

   • Accept the addition in the Windows Registry.

3. Start the installation

   • Right click on install.cmd → Execute as administrator.

   • The wizard will copy the files to C:\ADCDA2.

4. (Windows 64-bit only)

   • Open the folder Win_x64_Reg.

   • Run all the files .reg in order (1 → 2 → 3).

   • Each time, accept the import in the Registry.

5. First launch

   • Start Autodata via: C:\ADCDA2\ABCD.exe.

   • (Optional) Create a shortcut on the Desktop: right-click on ABCD.exe → Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).

4) Tips to avoid blockages

• Run as admin : for install.cmd, .reg and the first launch of ABCD.exe.

• Antivirus exclusions (temporary): add C:\ADCDA2\ in exclusion if the AV quarantines DLL/EXE.

• Exact path : do not modify the target path (C:\ADCDA2) unless adapted all the steps and scripts.

5) Troubleshooting (common mistakes)

Error : runtime error 217 at 004BB10D

Common cause: Unregistered DLL (including ChilkatCrypt2.dll) or insufficient rights.

Solution (administrator command line)

1. Open Command Prompt en administrator

   • Windows key → type cmd → right click Run as admin.

2. Go to the Autodata folder:

   
   

   cd C:\ADCDA2

3. Register the DLL:

   
   

   regsvr32 ChilkatCrypt2.dll

   • You should get a dialog box "DllRegisterServer in ChilkatCrypt2.dll succeeded".

💡 On Windows 64-bit, if the error message persists, force registration with the 32-bit version of regsvr32 (often necessary if the DLL is 32-bit):

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe C:\ADCDA2\ChilkatCrypt2.dll

(Yes, SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe handles 32-bit DLLs on a 64-bit OS.)

If you see Le module ... a été chargé mais l’appel à DllRegisterServer a échoué (code 0x80004005) :

• revive cmd in admin.

• Check that the antivirus is not blocking ChilkatCrypt2.dll.

• Be sure that Visual C++ 2010 x86 is installed correctly (even on a 64-bit OS).

SentinelKeyW.dll present in C:\ADCDA2 but error at launch

Symptom
When starting Autodata: "Unable to execute the code because SentinelKeyW.dll is not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

1. Copier the file SentinelKeyW.dll for C:\ADCDA2.

2. windows 64 bit

   • Option A (manual) : paste in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\, then test Autodata.

   • Option B (command, as administrator) :

     
     

     copy "C:\ADCDA2\SentinelKeyW.dll" "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\"

3. windows 32 bit

   • Paste in C:\Windows\System32\

   • or via command (as administrator):

     
     

     copy "C:\ADCDA2\SentinelKeyW.dll" "C:\Windows\System32\"

4. Restart Autodata
   Start C:\ADCDA2\ABCD.exe (ideally right click → Execute as administrator).

If it still doesn't work

• Visual C ++ 2010 : reinstall the redistributables

  • x86 (always) and x64 (if Windows 64-bit).

• Antivirus/SmartScreen : disable them temporarily, repeat step 3, then reactivate them.

• File blocked : right click on SentinelKeyW.dll → Properties → tab General → unblock (if present) → Apply.

• Path : check that the installation is under C:\ADCDA2 (do not move).

• Physical restart : restart Windows then repeat step 3.

Quick check

• A message " DllRegisterServer successful » should be displayed when regsvr32.

• Autodata opens without the launch error and the menus are accessible.

Other symptoms & remedies

• ABCD.exe does not launch / nothing is displayed

  • Right click → Execute as administrator.

  • Check that C:\ADCDA2 contains the DLLs (including ChilkatCrypt2.dll).

  • Temporarily disable antivirus and try again.

• Message on MSVCR100.dll/MSVCP100.dll missing

  • Reinstall Visual C ++ 2010 (x86 and x64 on 64-bit OS).

• Import .reg refused

  • Make sure you are admin.

  • Open Registry Editor (regedit) → File > Import... → choose the .reg.

6) Final check

1. Launch C:\ADCDA2\ABCD.exe.

2. The program should open without errors (or runtime error 217).

3. Perform a menu navigation test (e.g., selecting a vehicle model) to validate data access.

7) Uninstall (if necessary)

1. Close Autodata.

2. Delete the folder C:\ADCDA2.

3. (Optional) Restore the Registry: if you have .reg backups, reimport them; otherwise leave them as they are (Autodata entries are inert outside of C:\ADCDA2).

4. Leave them installed Visual C ++ 2010 : other programs may need it.

8) Quick checklist (memo)

• VC++ 2010 x86 installed

• VC++ 2010 x64 installed (if 64-bit OS)

• RegSettings.reg imported

• install.cmd in admin

• On 64 bits: Win_x64_Reg\1.reg, 2.reg, 3.reg imported

• First launch: C:\ADCDA2\ABCD.exe in admin
